My Story: My Due Date was July 4th 2008
The day I found out I was pregnant, I figured I would be one of those first time mothers that would have a “normal delivery”. That was, until about half way through my pregnancy when some complications started. I was having blood pressure problems, swelling and was told I needed to stop working. Then, the doctor’s appointments went from once a month to once a week for about 2 months in order to have stress tests done every time I was there. There were even a couple overnight hospital checks and many tests that had to be done. During one of those stays the doctors decided to give me a steroid shot to help with my Son’s lung development. At this time I had no idea I would have him 4 days later! At my last doctor’s appointment they had decided it was time that my Son needed to meet the world. This was May 15th 2008, which was 7 weeks before my due date, and I was scared! They tried to make my body have him naturally but he did not want anything to do with it. So Friday May 16th 2008 at 10:36 am Kolton was born via c-section, weighing in at 4lbs 9oz and 18 inches long. I know pretty good size considering he was 7 weeks early. He had rough couple first few days but then he progressed well and his NICU stay only lasted 2 ½ weeks before he came home June 4th 2008. While his stay in the NICU we had no clothing that small for him. The hospital had some clothing but not a lot to choose from so when they brought out a size 3 month pair of Pj’s to put on my 4lb 9oz baby, it didn’t look right! It didn’t make my first time parenting experience seem so nice. So starting that day I decided I need to help this hospital and the hundreds of babies and parents that have to visit this NICU. This is when “PJs for Preemies” was started. We are now going into our 8th year of doing it and hope to collect more and more each year!
